| Fuel | Average price | Change on the week |
|---|---|---|

The last few weeks
| Week commencing | Petrol | Diesel |
|---|---|---|
| 5 October | 174.88p | 199.52p |
| 12 October | 175.28p | 200.04p |
| 19 October | 174.57p | 199.33p |

How it compares with a year ago
In the week commencing 27 October 2025, petrol averaged 134.40p and diesel 142.38p.
- Petrol is up about 40p a litre, or 30%
- Diesel is up about 57p a litre, or 40%
For a driver filling a 55-litre tank, that is roughly £22 more for petrol and £31 more for diesel than a year ago.
What changed in 2026
Prices rose sharply in the spring. Petrol went from about 132p at the start of March to nearly 149p by the end of the month, while diesel jumped from about 142p to around 177p. Reports link the rise to disruption to oil shipping in the Middle East and tight supplies of refined diesel. Read why in why diesel is dearer than petrol.
What our own station data shows
Our database holds prices from more than 8,000 UK stations, taken from the government's Fuel Finder feed. On 27 October:
- E10 petrol: average about 172.4p, cheapest about 153.9p, dearest about 209.0p
- Diesel (B7): average about 198.7p, cheapest about 175.9p, dearest about 232.8p
